According to a consultant to the mayor’s office in the city of Mariupol, civilians will eventually be able to exit the city via the exit lane – and head towards the Ukrainian-controlled city of Saporizia.

Berdyansk is under Russian control.
“At present, more than 50 private cars are already passing through Berdyansk and heading towards Zaporizhia,” the official added.
Andruishchenko warned: “For now, there are no difficulties in passing the checkpoints” but “safety on this sidewalk cannot be officially guaranteed.
The Mariupol City Council says the Greenway is semi-official and does not guarantee the safety of the people who decide to use it. Also, it can only be used by personal vehicle owners. This pavement is not for buses.
According to the city council, 160 cars got off at Mariupol and passed Berdyansk. Latest information on this at 3pm local time (9am ET).
Mariupol has a population of about 400,000. It is not known how many people fled before the Russian invasion and siege of the city.
The city has suffered extensive devastation and Ukrainian officials say more than 2,500 people have been killed.
